The crash took place around 7:45 p.m., Thursday, July 25, near Exit 18 in Waterbury when the driver of the vehicle lost control and struck the metal beam guardrail, said the Connecticut State Police.
Both the driver and a passenger were ejected from the vehicle, state police said.
One sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other occupant, a passenger identified as William Lionel Torre-Dejesus of Waterbury, was transported to Waterbury Hospital with suspected minor injuries.
The name of the driver has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The I-84 westbound exit 18 off-ramps were shut down for several hours.
This crash is still under investigation.
